From the Streets of Leeds to the Ocean Floor
My grandfather used to say I could draw before I could walk. Growing up in Leeds and attending Foxwood School, textbooks never really held my interest—but art always did. However, at 16, my life took a radical turn. I’ll never forget boarding the train at Leeds Station on a grey, rainy afternoon to join the Royal Navy. For a lad from Yorkshire, traveling to Plymouth felt like traveling to the moon.
That train ride launched a lifetime of adventure. I trained as a Royal Navy Clearance Diver, a high-stakes world of underwater bomb disposal, ship repair, and heavy construction. Later, I took those skills into the private sector as an offshore deep-sea saturation diver. I have lived and worked in nearly every ocean on the planet, spending weeks at a time under the immense pressure of the deep sea.
Now retired, I am returning to my first love: art. Each piece in this collection is lovingly crafted from a lifetime of real-world diving experiences, blended with a touch of imagination.
